About

Who are we?

Inspired by the need The Wiregrass area has for fresh chemical free produce, Kith & Kin CSA was born. Kith meaning friends and Kin meaning family perfectly describes who we serve and who we are, as our farm is family owned and operated. Plus we treat our customers like good friends. We thank you for joining us in our venture to bring you the best produce The Wiregrass has to offer.

What is a CSA?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. In this model consumers agree to purchase local in season produce direct from the farm before the growing season begins. As a CSA member, you have the opportunity to support your local farm, know where your food comes from, and your farmer!

Farmers in turn agree to grow and provide access to this fresh seasonal produce you signed up for. The funds are provided up front which allows the farmer to pay for the necessary expenses that are incurred during the growing season. It is really an arrangement of trust on both parts.

Joining Kith & Kin CSA means you are provided with high quality, locally grown, chemical free produce. Giving you the satisfaction of knowing what you are feeding yourself and your family is also keeping your local farms around for a long time to come while maintaining the health of everyone.

How do you grow?

Our farm is Certified Naturally Grown. We grow from USDA organic, non-GMO seeds, and some heirloom plants. Over the years we have become more sustainable by saving our own seeds. Much of the produce grown on our farms are from these seeds. When we do purchase things like seed potatoes or sweet potato slips, these too are USDA organic. We practice crop rotation and focus on the foundation of growing, which is soil health.

We never use chemical pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides on anything we grow. Pest control is managed through organic methods like simple removal, cayenne pepper, diatomaceous earth, and others. Why is this important? We are committed to producing quality food that’s close to home and we want you to know that what you’re feeding your family is the best we have to offer.

What are the terms?

  • Kith & Kin CSA runs for 8 full weeks of produce for each season.
  • Delivery day is Monday.
  • You pick your choice of a Full or Half share.
  • Full share– Feeds a family of four (2 adults and 2 children).
  • Halfshare– Feeds a family of two (2 adults).

By paying, you are agreeing to purchase an 8 week share of produce. Your share makes you a farm partner. This means that we share the highs and lows of farming.

How Does it Work?

Each week you will receive a delivery containing local in season produce from what’s available on both farms. Our farms are known for our excellent growing practices and customer service. We grow not just what you would traditionally get in Alabama, but also some things you wouldn’t expect. You know “outside the box.

Being a member of our CSA, means you will receive the cream of the crop including some items we only offer to our members. In addition, there may be a surplus of a bumper crop that could be added to your share.

We will provide access to our exclusive Facebook group where you can ask questions, meet other CSA members, contact your farmers directly, enjoy recipes and so much more.

You will have the opportunity to “add on” to your basket weekly with your choice of fresh local eggs, seasonal jamsjellies, organic meats, and a few surprises along the way.

Your produce will be delivered to your door. We ask that someone is home to receive your delivery or that a cooler is left out to protect your items and keep them fresh.

We will provide the baskets which are to be turned back into us each week.

Failure to return the basket or any damage to it will result in a fee of $20 payable before the following weeks delivery.

Update: As of Spring 2020, baskets are no longer being offered in order to keep everyone safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Are there Other Shares?

Yes! In addition to single add ons, you may also choose to add both or one of our other shares. New for Spring 2020, we added an Egg Share.

Here’s how it works:

Egg Share: (Spring Only)

  • Each week along with your produce basket you will receive one dozen grade A farm fresh eggs.
  • This item is available to Kith & Kin CSA members only.
  • This Egg Share is not a stand alone item. It must accompany a produce basket and can be added anytime before the season starts.

New for Spring 2021, a Half Dozen Egg Share! (Member Request)

  • Each week along with your produce basket you will receive one half dozen grade A farm fresh eggs.
  • This item is available to Kith & Kin CSA members only.
  • This Egg Share is not a stand alone item. It must accompany a produce basket and can be added anytime before the season starts.

Is Delivery Included?

Delivery is free within the City of Dothan. If your delivery location is outside of this area, up to a 30 mile radius, you will pay a rate of .40 cents per mile round trip. This rate is current as of this posting, however we reserve the right to change this rate based on fluctuating gas prices. You will be given advance notice of this change.

Example: (If you live 20 miles outside of the city limits, you will pay a delivery fee of $16 for the additional 40 miles)

It is never our intention for these fees to discourage anyone from joining, so if you are able to arrange for a delivery site within the City of Dothan we can meet your needs.

How Do I Order?

If you’re ready to place your order now, please visit our shop page.

Can I Cancel?

Membership is non refundable. Once you’ve signed up, we have begun to plan and plant for your specific share. You are welcome to cancel your membership, but it will be without refund.

Our suggestion would be to gift or sell your unused shares to someone else within the City limits.

What if I’m going out of town?

If for any reason, you won’t be available to receive your weekly share, we suggest that you donate your box for that week to someone you know or maybe a family in need. We are happy to work with you on this. We only ask that you notify us 14 days in advance in order to facilitate this.

If something unexpected happens, please let us know as soon as you can. We will try to work with you, but are unable to move deliveries to another day.
